Side Stone Engagement Rings

The sides of a ring can be called a variety of names. When other stones are present, the sides can be referred to as side stones or accent stones. When no other stones are present, also known as a solitaire, the plain metal can be referred to as a band or shank. The term shank refers to the band in general and can include stones or not.

The answer to this question truly depends on the wearer. A few things to consider when seeking an engagement ring setting with accent stones is the proportions and overall look you are trying to achieve. The larger your side or accent stones are the smaller your center stone may look, it could blend into the overall sparkle of the ring versus being the center of attention. But if shopping for a three stone ring the goal is to have balance in the sizes and common sizes are a half to a third of the center diamond. Always go with your best instinct, the main goal is to find a ring you love.
